Actor Varun Dhawan was surprised to know that he was awarded Best Actor in a Comic Role for his act in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which was released earlier this year. His character was unintentionally funny in the film directed by Shashank Khaitan.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which also stars Alia Bhatt, became a success at the box office and Dhawan was praised for playing Badri.
The actor also expressed his surprise when he went on stage to receive the award. “This is like a comedy. I just want to say that this year has been very special for me, be it Badrinath Ki Dulhania or Judwaa 2. We put in a lot of efforts in Badri in terms of emotions. But I have got the award for comedy, which is a comedy in itself,” he said in his speech.
The video of his speech as recorded and shared by one of Dhawan's fans on Twitter.
Ironically, Dhawan did a comedy film, Judwaa 2 this year. It is the sequel to actor Salman Khan’s iconic Judwaa (1997) and became one of the biggest hits of the year.
