PM Narendra Modi, film industry mourn Shashi Kapoor's death


PM Modi, Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt, Boman Irani and Harsha Bhogle mourned the death of one of India’s debonair stars.

Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. Shashi breathed his last at 5.20pm at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai on Monday evening. The actor is survived by daughter Sanjana Kapoor and two sons, Kunal Kapoor and Karan Kapoor.

As soon as the news of his death came, tributes and condolences followed. 

Filmaker Karan Johar called him a gentleman and the most enigmatic actor.

Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt expressed his gratitude for the way Shashi touched many lives. 

Actor Boman Irani had a few words for Shashi's good looks. 

Actress Simi Grewal, who had worked with Shashi in the bold international film Siddhartha (1972), was left saddened by the passing away of her good friend. 

Actor Jaaved Jaafferi called him a wonderful gentleman one who charmed his fans with his endearing smile.

Singer Shweta Pandit revealed that she had a crush on the handsome actor.

Actor and Central Board of Film Certification member Vani Tripathi Tikoo hailed Shashi as the original global Thespian of Indian cinema. 

It was not just the film fraternity, but cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle too who paid tribute to the actor. 

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi, too, was too shocked to react. 

Prime minister Narendra Modi spoke about Shashi's versatility.
