Director Ali Abbas Zafar's Tiger Zinda Hai continued its rampage at the box office, adding Rs11.5 crore nett on Friday to its box-office collection, bringing its total to Rs217.5 crore, according to Boxofficeindia.com.
In so doing, the film starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif has proved to be a bright spot for the industry to end the year with.
The film had already collected Rs206 crore at the box office in its first week, and added Rs11.5 crore nett on Friday. The total Rs217.50 crore just about beats the eight-day figure for Salman Khan's Kick (2014) but lags behind his recent blockbusters Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Sultan (2016).
Tiger Zinda Hai review: Hero lives on, but logic dies
Touted as Yash Raj Films' most expensive production at almost Rs150 crore, Tiger Zinda Hai will need close to Rs300 crore to be profitable and be considered a hit, trade pundits have suggested. At the current rate, the film is likely to hit the number by the end of its second week.
As for its worldwide collection, Boxofficeindia.com said Tiger Zinda Hai is well past the Rs300 crore mark, with an approximate worldwide collection of Rs341 crore, which is more than the collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (2015) for the first eight days.
Tiger Zinda Hai is currently fourth in the first-week worldwide collections list. Sultan holds the top spot at Rs396.60 crore, followed closely by Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) at Rs388.83 crore and Dangal (2016) at Rs368.30 crore.
With the new year round the corner, the film is proving to be just the tonic the Hindi film industry needed.
