Mahesh Manjrekar’s Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho (2009) took a strong stand against the education system in the country and the pressure society puts on school students to score high marks.
On similar lines, Deepak Patil’s Barayan portrays the mountain of expectations that is laden on Std XII students. However, from the trailer, the film seems to have a different way of dealing with the issue.
Barayan tells the story of Aniruddha (Anurag Worlikar), a twelfth standard student. His parents, relatives and neighbours have great expectations from him to score very high marks and get admission in a medical course. However, he fails to achieve the required score and, as per society's rule book, the next option Aniruddha has is to become an engineer.
Soon after joining engineering school, Aniruddha realizes he is not cut out for it. This depresses him, and he and his friends on campus set out on a mission. What exactly the mission is will be known in the film.
Except for the mission, the trailer divulges most of the film's story. In other words, it has a lot of spoilers. The subject is contemporary, but all will depend on how it is treated.
Barayan also stars Nandu Madhav, known for his stellar act in the Oscar-nomitated Harishchandrachi Factory (2009), in the role of the father. The film is produced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shaina NC.
The film is scheduled to be released on 12 January 2018. Watch the trailer here:
