That he is popular in India is an understatement. His popularity rivals that of Hindi film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Actor Dwayne Johnson, who first rose to fame as The Rock in the erstwhile World Wrestling Federation show, now WWE, made a special video for the 'millions' of his fans in India.

The American star decided to test his knowledge of cricket. Apart from connecting with fans, this was also a neat promotional strategy for his upcoming film Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.

Calling cricket the national obsession of India, Johnson proceeded to take the test. At first he was clean bowled, unable to answer simple umpiring signals like 'Out' — which Johnson equated with the ump telling him that if you had played cricket, you would be number 1 — no-ball and six.

Well, why would a baseball-loving American have any idea of cricket, right? However, while he could not get the umpiring signal rights, the Scorpion King (2002) star was ably to identify former India captain MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot, the ramp shot, and a slow bouncer.

The actor wished the Indian cricket team luck for its forthcoming fixtures and urged fans to watch Jumanji 2, which hits theatres on 29 December.

The first film Jumanji was made in 1995 and starred the late Robin Williams. The adventure drama was quite a hit in India. The Rock will hope for a similar response for the sequel.
