Salman Khan's winning streak at the box office resumes. The superstar, whose Tubelight earlier this year had a dismal opening of only Rs20.75 crore when it was released on 23 June, a holiday weekend, can heave a sigh of relief. His latest film is off to a good start.
Tiger Zinda Hai, sequel to 2014's Ek Tha Tiger, which was directed by Kabir Khan, has entered the list of Hindi films with the highest opening on a working day in the fourth position with a collection of Rs34 crore yesterday.
The three films ahead of Tiger Zinda Hai in the list are Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Sultan (2016) and Happy New Year (2014). The first two were also Salman Khan starrers. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had earned Rs39 crore while Sultan had earned Rs36.5 crore. Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year is in third position with Rs36.3 crore.
However, the Hindi version of the Telugu blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, had opened with a massive Rs40.7 crore. That, too, was on a working day.
In Rajasthan, Tiger Zinda Hai faced some protests yesterday in cities like Jaipur and Kota owing to Khan's politically incorrect language while promoting the film on a television interview. Protestors vandalized some theatres and burned posters of the film and its lead actor. However, no such incidents have been reported so far on the film's second day.
