Star Plus has added more star power to its upcoming reality show, India’s Next Superstar, with Priyanka Chopra now tipped to co-judge the inaugural episode along with the show’s regular judges Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty, as reported by the tabloid Mumbai Mirror. The episode will be shot today.
The report quoted a source as saying, “Besides judging the first episode and giving contestants advice on making it in Bollywood [as the Hindi film industry is known], Priyanka is expected to perform on some of her hit numbers, including 'Desi Girl' from Dostana (2008) and 'Gallan Goodiyan' from Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)."
Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were approached before Chopra, but the duo’s conflicting schedules ruled them out.
The Hindi film industry is often embroiled in the nepotism debate. India’s Next Superstar aims to provide a platform for talents from across the country to grab their ticket to the big screen.
The show is expected to go on air in early January, succeeding Akshay Kumar’s The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.
