Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma held the first of the two wedding receptions at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave in New Delhi on 21 December. The couple got married on 11 December in a private ceremony in Tuscany, Italy.

While they are the most high profile couple in the country, Kohli and Sharma chose to continue with the traditional mood for the reception in Delhi. Kohli wore a stylish black bandhgala suit teamed with an embroidered Pashmina shawl, while Anushka Sharma went for a red benarasi sari, pairing it with a heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas. Sharma's look was designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who also created her couture for the wedding day.

I don’t think Indian brides feel complete without wearing the colour red in one of their functions. Anushka decided to wear red on her reception. And much to my absolute delight, it would be a red Benarasi saree. From the by-lanes of Peeli Kothi in Benaras. I was particularly excited about this look because I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi sarees. The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful. She chose to wear heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewelry collection. Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles and handlooms. And I must say the occasion couldn’t be better. I know copies of this saree will flood the entire country in the next few months to come, which also means that a million weaver’s children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you Anushka! Virat chose to complement his new bride in a very subtle and elegant manner. He wore a black textured silk signature bandhgala with the house buttons in 18k gold and a white silk kurta with hand-woven brocade churidaar. He teamed it with mojris from the Sabyasachi accessories line and a hand-embroidered antique Pashmina shawl from our ‘Kashmir Revival’ project. @anushkasharma @virat.kohli @bridesofsabyasachi @groomsofsabyasachi @tajdiplomaticenclave For all jewellery related queries, kindly contact sabyasachijewelry@sabyasachi.com #Sabyasachi #TheWorldOfSabyasachi #SabyasachiJewelry #AnushkaSharmaViratKohliReception #Virushka #AnushkaSharma #ViratKohli

The reception was attended by several high profile invitees, including the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi. The couple had dropped in to invite the prime minister immediately after arriving in the country on 20 December.

With a lavish, spectacular stage set for them, the couple took the dais before welcoming their guests and thanking them for the graces.

The couple had sent out invites to each guest accompanied with a goodie bag filled with customised sweets and gifts.

Since the wedding was a private affair attended only by close family and friends, it was no surprise that the reception turned out to be more than a spectacular event. Kohli's close friends and team members like Suresh Raina, and Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan attended the party.

The grandiose nature of the event did not prevent the couple from enjoying themselves. With singer Gurdaas Mann belting out the soundtrack, Kohli and \Sharma took to the dance floor to show off their moves. Even the guests, particularly Shikhar Dhawan, took the floor quite enthusiastically.

Kohli took on the babysitting of Dhawan's son, while Dhawan shone on the dance floor.

The couple are expected to throw another reception in Mumbai on 26 December. The reception in Mumbai will see a majority attendance by Sharma's friends and colleagues from the film industry. Sharma and Kohli will then leave to spend the New Year's eve together before the latter departs to prepare for the Indian team's South Africa tour.
