A best friend knows best. That's what the first trailer of Luv Ranjan's upcoming comedy with a tongue twister of a title, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, implies.
Kartik Aaryan is Sonu, best friend and saviour of Titu (Sunny Singh), the eternal romantic who wants to get married. Titu is getting over a difficult relationship and tries to get over it by getting married.
He is then introduced to Sweety, played by Nushrat Bharucha, seemingly the perfect girl for Titu. However, Sonu doesn't think so and says so: "Itna perfect koi nahi hai yaar, kuch toh garbad hai [Nobody is this perfect, something is fishy]." Thankfully, Sonu's paranoia is justified when Sweety decides she has had enough of his doubting ways and doesn't back down.
Sonu is hell-bent on wrecking the wedding, declaring war on Sweety who has dared to change everything about his best friend Titu. But going by Aaryan's astonished looks in the trailer, it looks like Sonu may have met his match.
This is Ranjan's third comedy after Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) and Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015). This latest madcap comedy seems to be in the same vein as his earlier films.
Aaryan and Bharucha acted in the first two films as well and seem to have picked up from where those films left off. Aaryan, whose monologue in Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) went viral, is seen similarly mouthing off wisdom about women and their ways to best pal Titu.
Bharucha essays the flawless Sweety who can do no wrong and is not going to let Titu's best friend Sonu come in the way of their happy ending.
Sweety warns Sonu that when it comes to best friends and romance, it is usually the girl who wins. To which Sonu merely has the last laugh.
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is due to be released on 9 February 2018 opposite Anushka Sharma's home production Pari.
