Sunny Leone fans in Karnataka were left disappointed after the ruling Congress decided against hosting her New Year’s eve bash in Bangalore, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.
The move comes in the wake of some fringe groups raising a furore saying Leone's presence would be be an 'attack on Kannada culture'.
The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and some other organizations have been opposing the proposed event on December 31, calling the invitation to Sunny Leone an 'assault' on the city's culture.
The groups have been holding protests in the city opposing the event. Leone has long quit the porn industry after switching to Hindi cinema.
"I have instructed [the authorities] not to allow such events," state home minister Ramalinga Reddy told PTI. "Don't bring her [Leone] here. People are opposed to the event. Let [the organisers] organize events related to Kannada culture and literature, which is our heritage."
While she has quit performing in porn films, Sunny Leone has largely been confined to doing song-and-dance numbers in Hindi cinema.
