Rajkummar Rao has had a terrific 2017. The actor added another feather to his hat in the form of the Variety Asia Rising Star award for his performance in Amit Masurkar's Newton. The award was presented to him yesterday at the International Film Festival and Awards Macau (IFFAM).
The actor expressed his happiness by sharing a picture where he is seen kissing the award. He said, “Won the @Variety Asia Rising Star award at #IFFM in Macau. Thank you @Variety magazine for this honour.”

“Prizes were handed out on Thursday evening at Macau's Cultural Centre, in front of a crowd that mixed local dignitaries, Hong Kong movie folk and a high-profile international contingent of filmmakers, industry executives, and festival programmers,” said Variety.com in a report.
The festival marked out Rajkummar Rao among the eight acting talents across Asia who have potential as global stars. The remaining seven artistes on the list included Shioli Kutsuna, Ludi Lin, Chutimon Cheungcharoensukying, Piolo Pascual, Celina Jade and Ahn Seo-hyun.
Less than a month ago, Rajkummar Rao won the award for Best Actor at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, also for his performance as Newton. Apart from that film, the actor has been appreciated for his work this year in Trapped and Bareilly Ki Barfi.
Despite the accolades, Masurkar's film failed to make the shortlist of the 90th Academy Awards. Newton was India's official entry to the category of Best Foreign Film at the 90th Academy Awards.
