Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey Returns has turned out to be the surprise hit of the year.
After scoring an impressive Rs31.65 crore in the opening weekend, the film passed its weekday test by making Rs5 crore and Rs4.50 crore on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
This ensured that the film starring Varun Sharma, Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Ali Fazal and Manjot Singh has collected about Rs49.50 crore in the first week, as per BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Fukrey Returns was reportedly made on a budget of Rs30 crore. Though the cost might sound a little steep for a film with no stars, it has made up for its production expense by crossing that mark with ease. With no big films being released this week, the sequel has a good chance of increasing its tally on the second weekend.
The film’s score of Rs49.50 crore is the 12th highest first-week collection of 2017. Fukrey Returns has run past films with big stars like Jagga Jasoos, Secret Superstar and Half Girlfriend. Baadshaho is marginally ahead on first week collections, having made Rs54.23 crore in the same time. But Ajay Devgn's film did have the advantage of a public holiday in its first week.
