India's cricket captain Virat Kohli married actress-producer Anushka Sharma at a private ceremony in Tuscany, Italy, today.
Kohli and Sharma had a private wedding in an 800-year-old village that has been restored and turned into a resort called Borgo Finocchieto. The couple had a Punjabi-style wedding.
The couple kept their marriage away form the media glare. At around 8:45 pm IST, the couple confirmed the marriage with a common message on Twitter.
“Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey,“ the couple posted on their respective Twitter handles.
As soon as the official announcement came, the hash tag VirushkaWedding began trending on Twitter.
With the wedding done, the couple will hold a grand reception on 21 December at the Taj Hotel in New Delhi's diplomatic enclave and five days later in Mumbai. Post their wedding the newly wed couple will be shifting to their new residence in Worli, Mumbai in December once they return from Delhi.
Kohli and Sharma had been dating for more than three years.
