The Central Board of Film Certification is again in the news for not letting adult content in Kushan Nandy’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. The reason given by their chief Pahlaj Nihalani is that these days even children are exposed to such content through various gadgets.
When this was pointed out to senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Subramanian Swamy, he agreed saying, “He (Nihalani) is right. The concept of adults has become a meaningless concept.” However, he also went out to urged that the content in films should be ‘Hindutva friendly.’
Speaking to Mirror Now, he said, “Yes, I do think it (content) should be Hindutva friendly. Hindutva friendly (means) we care a lot for our families. Our children are treated very well, unlike other places. They are looked after till they even become adults.”
Swamy even claimed that Indian children should not be given freedom like they give in the west. “We have a totally different concept from the west. We don’t want the kind of freedom that the western societies believe in. Here everything that is licentious is not for our culture,” he added.
But he did condemn the sexist remarks made against Kiran Shroff, producer of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. “She should file a complaint because that would be an offensive remark. We really can’t tell women what they should wear.”
However, like a twist in the tale, Swamy felt the need to advise Indian women what they should wear. “But we can always propagate that sarees and salwar-kameez are the best dresses to wear in a hot climate country like ours,” he added.
When asked about the basis of the propagation, Swamy claimed scientific evidence and again urged the need to stop following the West. “You read the changes that caused in your reproductive system when you wear tight clothes in hot climates. You can go to Google and find out. I would not recommend (that) women do this and do that. I would only say that I don’t want them to ape the west,” he said.
Swamy is well-known for his pro-Hindutva comments. Just today he wrote on Twitter, "By the time I am through with politics and return to academics India will be a Virat Hindu Rashtra (where religious minorities can be safe)."
