The writing is on the wall. Last week’s much hyped releases Mubarakan and Indu Sarkar have not enjoyed a good run so far at the box office.
According to reports by BoxOfficeIndia, the Anil and Arjun Kapoor-starrer Mubarakan could only rake in only Rs35 crore nett, and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar could only muster Rs4.75 crore nett, in their first week.
Mubarakan enjoyed a wider release with around 2,350 screens across India. The worrying factor for the film was its high budget, approximately Rs70 crore. The film has barely recovered half of it and given its poor run through the week, it will be a huge challenge for it to even touch a Rs50crore nett.
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Indu Sarkar didn’t yield as many eyeballs as expected. Based on the Emergency period (1975-1977), the film hasn’t found much flavour with the present audience. Made at a budget of about Rs11 crore, the film released across 825 screens in India.
Indu Sarkar's week one collection is lower than that of Alankrita Shrivastava's Lipstick Under My Burkha. The latter had much fewer screens (400) and made around Rs6 crore nett in its first week.
Baaraat Company and Raag Desh, the other two releases of last week, were a total wash out.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal hits the screens today, which might spell the dead end for Mubarakan and Indu Sarkar.
