Director Bornila Chatterjee’s debut venture The Hungry will have its European and Asian premieres at the London film festival and the Mumbai film festival, respectively. The film makes its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2017.

The Hungry is a co-production between the Cinestaan Film Company (CFC, a sister company of Cinestaan Digital Private Limited, which runs this website) and Film London.

“The Hungry was born from a project to bring the UK and India film industries together and the unique collaboration that has seen this project come to life will get the launch its filmmaking team richly deserves,” an official statement from the makers said.

Starring Naseeruddin Shah and Tisca Chopra, the film is based on Shakespeare’s play Titus Andronicus — the story of a bride who arrives at her own wedding with the aim to avenge the murder of her first-born son.

Speaking about the film’s selection at the London and Mumbai film festivals, Rohit Khattar, CFC chairman, said, “We at the Cinestaan Film Company are delighted that following The Hungry’s world premiere at TIFF, it will be premiering in its twin home cities, London and Mumbai.”

Naseeruddin Shah was all praise for the first-time director. He said, “Bornila is extremely open and receptive to ideas from others, which can be rare with first-time directors. I would rate Bornila as among the best directors I’ve worked with, and you could sense that in her first film itself.”
