Veteran film star Dilip Kumar’s decade-long property dispute came to a close after the supreme court asked the actor to deposit Rs20 crore with the registry as part payment to the developer, as reported by the Press Trust of India.
Prajita Developer Pvt Ltd has been asked to vacate the property and hand over possession to the nonagenarian actor. A bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar asked the thespian to deposit the money within four weeks.
“Upon receipt of such intimation, Prajita shall withdraw all the security personnel deployed by it and hand over possession of the property in question within a period of seven days from the date of receipt of the above-mentioned intimation to the appellant in the presence of the commissioner of police, Mumbai, or any other senior police officer subordinate to the commissioner of police, Mumbai, to be nominated by the commissioner of police,” the bench ruled.
The dispute pertained to a 2,412 square yard property which the actor had bought in Bandra. Dilip Kumar later entered into an agreement with Prajita Developers to construct a building on the plot. Since no construction took place, the actor had demanded return of his property. The developer, though, refused and insisted that Dilip Kumar honour the agreement.
