After his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed The Lunchbox (2013), Ritesh Batra has been busy with his international projects, The Sense Of An Ending (2017) and Our Souls At Night (2017). His next film, Photograph, will reunite him with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who memorably played Irrfan Khan's endearing co-worker in The Lunchbox.
Sanya Malhotra, who played Aamir Khan's daughter in the blockbuster, Dangal (2016), has also signed onto the film as the lead actress. She bagged the role after many rounds of auditioning. However, since Siddiqui and Batra had worked before, the actor was considered for the lead role since the first draft of the film.
The director told the newspaper Hindustan Times that the film was a 'love story of sorts between a poor photographer and his muse'. He added, "There are a lot of other actors too in the film. It'll have an ensemble cast since there are 44 parts in it."
Photograph marks Batra's return to India after his international stint. The film is produced by his production company, Poetic License, along with Amazon Studios. Our Souls At Night will have its world premiere on 1 September at Venice Film Festival ahead of its online release on Netflix.
