Akshay Kumar is the quintessential ladies' man, and we mean that in a good way. The star is playing a sanitary-napkin manufacturer in R Balki’s next film, Padman, which is being co-produced by Balki and Akshay Kumar’s wife Twinkle Khanna. The filmmakers released the first poster and also announced the release date, 13 April, 2018.
Khanna revealed the poster in her own inimitable style.
The film is said to be based on the life of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham who dedicated his life to the cause of menstruation hygiene and cost-effective manufacturing of quality sanitary pads. Muruganantham is described as the 'menstrual man of India'.
Looking at the poster, it looks like Akshay Kumar’s character is based in Banaras. So, in all likelihood, he will be playing a Banarasi. The poster also suggests that Akshay Kumar’s character could be a Padman on wheels.
Often known for his action and mindless comedy entertainers, Akshay Kumar has been experimenting lately with biopics and socially relevant subjects such as the forthcoming Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Rustom (2016), and Gold and Padman (2018).
This is the maiden film production of Twinkle Khanna under her newly floated banner Mrs Funnybones Movies. Mrs Funnybones is the title of a humorous and popular column that Khanna writes for The Times of India newspaper.
