'Kaavaan Kaavaan' is now Lucknow Central's jailhouse bhangra pop song 

To include a remake of an old song has become a norm in Hindi films these days. This time around, makers of Farhan Akhtar’s Lucknow Central have revisited the 'Kaavaan Kaavaan' track from Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding (2001). The original was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and composed by Mychael Danna.  

The new 'Kaavaan Kaavaan' is composed by Arjuna Harjai and sung by Divya Kumar.

Lyicist Kumaar has retained the introductory verse of the orginal but tweaked the lyrics to suit the characters of Lucknow Central and their plight.

Harjai hasn't tinkered the music that much, keeping the core rhythm of the original. The gripping music that keeps you hooked to the track. Some might find it difficult to get the Punjabi lyrics, but the song talks about breaking all the walls or bondage and flying away like a bird (kaavaan means crow). In the context of the film, it talks about how the song motivates Kishan (Akhtar) and his band mates to break jail. 

On first hearing, you might mistake Divya's voice to be Sukhwinder Singh's. Divya has chipped in with a powerful performance, and comparing him to Singh would be no good. He has managed to make the new 'Kaavaan Kaavaan' his own.

You don’t expect prison inmates to be great dancers. Therefore, Akhtar and his band members dance like any common man would. Their costumes resemble the wedding bands from North India. In a nutshell, 'Kaavaan Kaavaan' is now Lucknow Central's jailhouse bhangra pop.

It is the bhangra beats that make both the original and the new track a must-tune-into number. Watch both the new and the old below. Lucknow Central is set to be released on 15 September.
