Haseena Parkar 'Tere Bina' song: Arijit's serene singing fails to redeem this romantic ballad

Apoorva Lakhia's Haseena Parkar tells the story of a strong woman who takes up the reins of Mumbai's underworld. However, the latest song from the film shows Shraddha Kapoor's character in a different light. 

Composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song is a slow romantic track that emphasizes the blossoming romance in the life of Haseena and Ibrahim Parkar. While the trailer portrayed Kapoor as the strong, fearless gangster woman, the song has her playing the naive, young Haseena swept off her feet by the charming Ibrahim (played by Ankur Bhatia).

From the very 'filmi' scene of her dropping her dupatta on him as he passes by, to cuddling up in theatres, the visuals seek to offer a glimpse of Haseena's life before the underworld intervened. While Bhatia manages to deliver as the roguish Ibrahim, it is Kapoor's overt portrayal of Haseena that does not cut through. She appears too saccharine to be true. 

Sachin-Jigar's composition uses Arijit Singh well, with his voice offering the lift required to the song. Priya Saraiya's lyrics are good, but nothing special. 

Haseena Parkar is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, and is set to be released on 22 September.
