Sonam Kapoor to star in The Zoya Factor adaptation

After playing the title role in Aisha (2010), Sonam Kapoor is once again headlining a book adaptation with The Zoya Factor. The actress confirmed her involvement in the project by stating on Twitter, “Super excited to work with amazing sister duo @aartims and @Pooja__Shetty with brilliant #abhisheksharma on @anujachauhan’s Zoya factor."

The 2008 fiction novel, The Zoya Factor, is the writing debut of author Anuja Chauhan. The book focuses on a young woman working in an ad agency, Zoya Singh Solanki, who somehow becomes the lucky charm of the Indian cricket team and has a love-hate relationship with the team’s captain, Nikhil. Director Abhishek Sharma, who directed Ali Zafar’s Hindi cinema debut Tere Bin Laden (2010), will helm this big screen adaptation.

Sonam Kapoor was supposed to star in the another adaptation, Battle of Bittora, another Anuja Chauhan novel, a few years ago with Fawad Khan. Anil Kapoor Film Company had purchased the rights of the novel but the film is yet to be shot.

Last week, Kapoor also purchased the rights to Krishna Udayasankar’s book trilogy, The Aryavarta Chronicles, a retelling of the epic Mahabharata. The author announced the big news after a pitching session at Mumbai Film Festival’s Word to Screen Market which brought together writers and producers to adapt books for the big screen.

Sonam Kapoor told the newspaper Indian Express in an interview after the event, “I don’t know what I will play in it because of course, I can’t play Govinda even if I want. I have also bought the rights to the trilogy (Aryavarata Chronicles trilogy) and hopefully, one day I will make the film. There is so much potential in the stories of Indian mythology and that is where I invest my money, in content.”
