Malvika Raaj cast in Captain Nawab opposite Emraan Hashmi

In 2001, Raaj was seen playing the role of the younger Pooja (Kareena's character) in the multi-starrer Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Malvika Raaj, who played the younger version of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character Pooja in Karan Johar’s multi-starrer Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001), is all set to make her lead acting debut with Tony D’Souza’s Captain Nawab opposite Emraan Hashmi.

Malvika Raaj told the newspaper Mumbai Mirror about her upcoming role, stating, “It's a performance-oriented role. I liked the script. As part of my prep, I will be learning Urdu and Punjabi and have already begun workshop.” She will begin shooting for the film in October with co-star Emraan Hashmi. 

Hashmi is currently busy with the release of his latest film Baadshaho. He is venturing into production with Captain Nawab with his banner, Emraan Hashmi Films. 

Raaj gained notice for her performance in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and the character of Pooja has remained popular over the years. She has now completed her studies and learnt acting from Anupam Kher's acting institute, Actor Prepares. She has already appeared in the Telugu film, Jayadev, opposite Ghanta Ravi which released in June earlier this year.

Raaj has a film pedigree in her background — she is the grand-daughter of late actor Jagdish Raj, her aunt Anita is also an actress while her sister Sonakshi is a successful fashion designer.
