The Hungry trailer: Tisca Chopra prepares for revenge


Based on William Shakespeare’s tragic play Titus Andronicus, the film will have its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The first trailer for Bornila Chatterjee’s film, The Hungry, presents the classic Shakespearean story transported to India, bringing together the Ahuja and Joshi families in a tragic tale of revenge and violence.

The trailer keeps its cards close to its vest, showing us brief glimpses of the key characters from Tathagat Ahuja (played by Naseeruddin Shah), Tulip Joshi (Tisca Chopra), and Sunny Ahuja (Arjun Gupta). The families have gathered together for the wedding of Tulip and Sunny when a shocking event forces Tulip to reconsider her choices.

The original play, Titus Andronicus, was considered to be Shakespeare’s first tragedy and is set in the Roman Empire, focusing on the general of Roman army. In the Indian setting, Titus is Tathagut, a corporate tycoon.

A joint production of Microwave International Ltd and Cinestaan Film Company, The Hungry will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and also stars Sayani Gupta, Neeraj Kabi, Antonio Aakeel and Suraj Sharma. Chatterjee had previously directed the English film, Let's Be Out, The Sun Is Shining (2012).
