The rise of the Indian women's cricket team has given a boost to new talks of biopics. At a recent press interaction, Mithali Raj, captain of the Indian women's cricket team suggested that Priyanka Chopra might be a good choice to play her if a biopic does get made.
A report by business magazine, Brand Equity, quoted Raj saying, "Going purely by personality, I think Priyanka Chopra would match mine, but then she has already done one biopic."
While Raj might wish for Chopra to play the part, the actress is balancing a problem of plenty herself. On a holiday in Mumbai, the actress is reportedly in talks with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a film. She is also overseeing the final stages of the production of her Sikkimese film, Pahuna, to release at the Toronto International Film Festival soon.
The same report also quoted Raj as rejecting Deepika Padukone as a choice, purely because of her height. Raj was quoted saying, "Not Deepika Padukone, at least. She’s almost 6 feet and I am 5’3."
Raj captained the Indian women's cricket team to the World Cup final last month, where they lost to the English women's team. However, the tournament ensured the rise in popularity of all the players. Recently, Hindustan Times newspaper quoted a fellow team mate of Raj's, Harmanpreet Kaur saying she would prefer Padukone to play her. Kaur said, "Deepika is a good actor. She’d be the right choice [for the biopic], she’d able portray me well on-screen."
If it does come through, Chopra and Padukone might both get to share screen space again.
