Rajesh Mapuskar’s Marathi film Ventilator, which was produced by Priyanka Chopra, is now all set to be remade in Malayalam. The actress herself would be remaking it under her banner, Purple Pebble Pictures.

Dr Madhu Chopra, Priyanka’s mother and production partner, confirmed the news to Deccan Chronicle saying, “Yes, we just signed a contract for the remake of Ventilator in Malayalam, and Priyanka will be co-producing it. The Malayalam industry has some amazing content, and they are doing well.”

For Madhu Chopra, Malayalam is a comfortable space as opposed to Tamil and Telugu. “I don’t understand Tamil and Telugu, but I can understand Malayalam, so I am not scared to do it. Tamil and Telugu (industries) are scary places. They are huge industries, so it would be tough,” she added.

The title, director and cast of the film haven't been finalized yet. But Madhu Chopra did confirm that the movie will be helmed by a well known director from down south. “We are still working on the casting, and it will be a known director who will helm the project,” she said.

Ventilator revolved around a man whose immediate family and relatives unite only after he becomes comatose and is put on life support (ventilator). It starred Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi, Satish Alekar, Sulbha Arya, Sukanya Kulkarni, and others.

Ventilator is one of the very few box office successes of Marathi cinema in 2016.
