Even as more celebrities from the film industry are coming out against sexual harassment, there are many still facing the menace. Actress Koena Mitra has filed a sexual harassment case with the Mumbai police.
According to reports, the actress received quite a number of lewd calls on her mobile phone from an unknown man. The actress was reportedly called 40-50 times in a week, after which she decided to approach the police.
Speaking with India.com, the actress said, "From 24 July, I started getting calls from random numbers, many among them being Mumbai numbers too. They called me non-stop. I changed my handset too. Usually, I don’t take a call from an unknown number. But once I answered, he started talking nonsense and filth, it took me seconds to react. I was literally frozen. And after a few minutes, I was just angry and fired him. And after that, there was a marathon of calls. I was tired of answering the calls. A day later, he called again and I fired him and he abused me in Marathi."
Earlier in the year, actress Shruti Haasan had approached the police to seek help after a stalker reached her apartment. More recently, actor Akshay Kumar had opened up about facing sexual harassment as a child.
The report has been filed at the Oshiwara police station in Andheri. The tabloid Mid-Day quoted a source saying, "We have booked the caller under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC and are investigating the case further."
The actress began her career through an item number in Ram Gopal Varma's film Road (2002) before acting in films like Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), Musafir (2004) and Heyy Babyy (2007).
