Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan is set for a maiden collaboration with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi, as reported by IANS news agency. Bachchan will play a pivotal role in the multi-lingual historic drama Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, that is said to be based on the life of a popular freedom fighter from Kurnool.
IANS quoted a source as saying, “Amitji is officially on board. He plays a pivotal role but nothing more can be said about his character at this moment.”
The film is to be directed by Surender Reddy. Popular actress from the south Nayanthara has also been roped in. The film will be made in three languages — Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
The title logo and the motion poster will be launched on Chiranjeevi’s birthday that falls on 22 August.
Narasimha was a freedom fighter from the 18th century. On 23 July, 1846, Narasimha and his army had attacked the British forces at Giddalru and defeated them. Stunned by the attack, the British had captured his family, following which Reddy was subjected to brutality. Bound in heavy chains, the British paraded Narasimha in the streets of Koilkuntla with blood-stained clothes serving as lesson for those who dared to defy the Raj. He was charged with revolt, murder and dacoity but convicted on all charges. He was sentenced to death by hanging on 22 February 1847.
In 2014, Bachchan had made a special appearance in the Nagarjuna-starrer Telugu film Manam.
