Superstar Aamir Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar have never worked together. They are both at the top of their game and the duo coming together would be a dream combination, but that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Johar has said that he’s scared to cast Aamir in a film, as reported by Indiatimes.com.
Johar was speaking at a masterclass on ‘How to direct a big Bollywood dream’ at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) on Sunday (13 August).
Despite distributing Baahubali in Hindi, Johar feels that he hasn’t made any great contribution to the industry. "I've yet to make my Lagaan or a Rang De Basanti or a Lage Raho... which I believe are defining iconic films," said Johar, before praising Aamir, "the most intelligent cinematic mind" in the industry, especially after his blockbuster Dangal.
Johar also confessed that he is scared to cast the superstar in a film.
"I don't want to be the one who gave him the bad film... I'm over-nervous (sic)" said Johar.
Aamir has been picky and wise about the films he chooses. To him, it’s the script that matters the most.
In the past, Aamir chose to stay away from the likes of Johar. As a matter of fact, the actor was never pally with Johar. When Aamir appeared on Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan, some seasons ago, he had said that he did not gel with Johar because of the things he has heard about him.
The duo has a come long way since then with Johar often praising the superstar for his films and the choice he makes.
Speaking at the Dangal success party in February this year, Johar said, “The kind of subjects he (Aamir Khan) chooses, whether it is Taare Zaamen Par, Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai or Dangal, he has given a new aspect to the mainstream cinema. Because of this, today there are so many different movies like Pink, Neerja and Kapoor & Sons being made."
