The makers of Newton starring Rajkummar Rao released a pertinent teaser of the dark comedy.
One of Newton's laws of motion is: An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, also called as the law of inertia.
In the trailer, a voiceover of Rajkummar refers to the same law as he applies it to his life as an election officer. "Jab tak kuch naho badlogey dost, tab tak kuch nahi badlega." (Nothing will change till, till you don't decide to change it).
Directed by Amit Masurkar, Newton is a black comedy said to be based on the life of Newton Kumar, a government clerk, who is assigned to conduct free and fair elections in a Naxal-controlled area of Chhatisgarh. The Naxal-controlled areas often see the state security forces battling with communist rebels. Kumar faces a task to ensure free and fair elections in such an environment.
Newton is set to be released on 22 September, where it will compete with Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar and Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi.
Newton was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival where it won the International Federation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in its Forum segment.
