It looks like the film will bring the prolonged dry period at the Hindi box office to a halt.

Debutant director Shree Narayan Singh’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has passed the weekend test at the box office. The Akshay Kumar starrer has reached the Rs50 crore mark in the first three days, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Also starring Bhumi Pednekar, the film opened to a decent number on Friday with Rs11.71 crore and saw a good jump the following day (Saturday) as it made an additional Rs17 crore. As expected, the number went higher on Sunday too, due to the positive word-of-mouth, amassing Rs21.25 crore.

The grand total now stands at Rs50 crore.

The film has been reportedly made at a budget of Rs40 crore. This doesn’t include Akshay’s fees as he will be taking a cut from the profits. With already Rs50 crore in the bag, it seems the film stands a good chance of entering the profit zone.

Today is a public holiday in some parts of the country due to the festival of Janmashtami and tomorrow, being Independence day, will be a national holiday. Needless to say, this will enormously help the cause of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
