Director Hansal Mehta's Simran trailer raised curiousity with its fascinating tale of a kleptomaniac Gujarati housekeeper in Canada. Now, the first song from the film is the perfect wedding song to kick off the soundtrack to this Kangana Ranaut-starrer.
The composition by Sachin-Jigar starts off with a lilting rhythm before being upstaged by the percussions. Featured on Ranaut's Simran attending a wedding, the video captures the quirky, cute nature of the character well. While the actress was never a great dancer, her moves only make the song all the more real and endearing. Her natural exuberance and attitude are one of the key features of the song. In some way, it carries traces of the actress' last big chartbuster, 'London Thumakda' from Queen (2014), which was also set at a wedding celebration.
Guru Randhawa and Jonita Gandi do a good job on the vocals, and bring the right balance of fun and charm to it. The eclectic lyrics in Hindi, Punjabi and English by Vayu raise the fun quotient of the song. The slow, jazzy end of the song emphasises Simran's alcoholic, kleptomania a little further. But it takes nothing away from the composition.
After 'Sweety Tera Drama' from Bareilly Ki Barfi and 'Rocket Saiyyan' from Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, 'Lagdi Hai Thaai' is the third wedding song to be released recently.
Simran is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Shailesh R Singh and Amit Agarwal. The film is set to be released on 15 September.
