Ranbir Kapoor had stepped out to launch the trailer of Sanjay Dutt's comeback film Bhoomi yesterday, 11 August. Kapoor, who will be seen essaying the lead role in the Sanjay Dutt biopic, was full of praise for Dutt.
The actor was bound to be questioned on the failure of the recently released Jagga Jasoos and more importantly, the scathing attack on director Anurag Basu by his father Rishi Kapoor.
Speaking to a tabloid, Mid-Day, the senior Kapoor had lashed out at Basu calling him an irresponsible director.
Ranbir as asked about his father’s comments and the actor chose to downplay the issue, saying, “My father is an emotional man. I think he was only protecting me."
Disagreeing with his father’s views, Kapoor said, “I don't necessarily agree with what he said. We worked on Jagga Jasoos for three years and we knew what we were doing and how it was being made. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail. I don't look at it as failure. I look at it as a learning experience. I cannot answer for somebody else, but I don't necessarily agree with anybody else.”
It just wasn’t Ranbir Kapoor but filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra too who jumped to the defence of Jagga Jasoos.
"I spent three hours to watch the film on a big screen and let me put it on record that some of the moments in the film are excellent. It is not a flop film. You know no one is flop-proof, we all are striving to do our best. Sometimes it falls in place, sometimes it doesn't but as long as we are striving, it is okay", Chopra said.
Jagga Jasoos took over fours years to complete, with the budget swellling to Rs131 crore. The film, that released on 14 July, across 1,750 screens in India, has barely managed to earn Rs52.5 crore nett so far.
