More than 50 years have passed since actor Robert Redford and actress Jane Fonda first came together onscreen in Arthur Penn’s The Chase (1966). They’re back as co-stars with Ritesh Batra’s Netflix film Our Souls At Night which just released its first teaser.
The teaser shows a simple scene between the two veteran actors. Redford is driving a pickup truck on the open road while Fonda is seated next to him. She slowly inches closer to him while the soothing strains of Etta James singing ‘A Sunday Kind Of Love’ plays in the background.
The video’s description says, “There's no age restriction to falling in love.” Redford turns 81 next week while Fonda is 79 and they portray Louis Waters and Addie Moore, a widower and widow, respectively. In the novel by Kent Haruf, the neighbours fall for each other.
The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra was hired by the streaming giant Netflix to helm the project in 2016. This isn't his first Hollywood project, he directed The Sense Of An Ending with Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling which released earlier this year.
Redford and Fonda had last starred together on Sydney Pollack's The Electric Horseman (1979). Our Souls At Night is due to be released on Netflix on 29 September.
