Omung Kumar's Bhoomi trailer has few surprises, but delivers the expected very well. The trailer was launched by Ranbir Kapoor, and the cast of Bhoomi — Sanjay Dutt, Aditi Rao Hydari, and director Omung Kumar today, 10 August. A simple tale of revenge, Bhoomi will see Dutt play a heartbroken father wreaking havoc on the people who ruined his daughter's life.
The trailer launches into high drama from its first shot of women being kidnapped and thrown into the hedges in the dark outside Agra city. Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari play a father-daughter duo who share a sweet relationship. Tragedy strikes when Sharad Kelkar's menacing villain sexually assaults Hydari's character. With law and society abandoning them, Dutt decides to 'save the daughter' himself.
While it might seem like the trailer has revealed the entire plot of the film, it does have some surprises. The sequence of an enraged Dutt threatening a chained man with slow death is a key point. The action sequences look vicious, with Dutt's hulking frame being put to full use. The sequence of a teary eyed Hydari getting ready for a wedding raises the question if there is a forced marriage playing into the plot as well.
The trailer focusses on the very current topic of the safety of women from the very first pooja scene, where Hydari's character asks 'Banjhan ko putr kyon? Putri kyon nahi?' (Why do you pray for a son, not a daughter?). As the rest of the trailer pans out, the symbolism explains itself. The portrayal of society's reactions, and the struggle of assault victims to find justice in a broken system.
Shekhar Suman, Sharad Kelkar, and Sidhant Gupta bring up the supporting cast in the trailer.
Bhoomi, produced by Sandeep Singh and Bhushan Kumar, is set to be released on 22 September.
