Actor Vijay has asked his fans not to make lewd comments about women on social media.
His appeal comes in the wake of an FIR being registered against two people, believed to be his fans, after they turned abusive and trolled a female journalist, Dhanya Rajendran, for tweeting about one of his films. She had posted a comment that she found Shah Rukh Khan's Jab Harry Met Sejal being even more boring than Vijay's Sura.
Taking offence to her tweet, several fans of the actor trolled the journalist for calling Vijay's Sura boring.
Reacting to the developments, Vijay, in his statement in Tamil, claimed that he was someone who respected women. He clarified that anybody had the right to criticize anybody's film. "It is my opinion that no matter what, one cannot, for any reason or at any time, criticise women in an insulting or degrading fashion. Everybody should praise womanhood," the actor said, and added, "I request you not to express wrong opinions on women in social media with the intention of hurting anybody's sentiments."
