Kajol takes a dig at Karan Johar: People use honesty to sell books, movies, TV ratings

Kajol gets back at friend-turned-foe Johar for writing against her in his book, The Unsuitable Boy.

Celebrities taking digs at each other seems like the new trend in Hindi cinema currently. After Kangana Ranaut-Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar-Ranaut, it is now time for the Johar-Kajol war to escalate further. During an interaction with a publication, Kajol took a clear dig at Johar, her former friend.

She indirectly accused Johar of being fake to sell his book, movies and television show. “Well, I think there’s a lot of fake honesty going around as well. I really do. There are a lot of people going around and saying, ‘You know I’m being honest’ and actually, it’s just for selling books, or movies and ratings,” she said.

Kajol added that honesty was going through a serious crisis. “I don’t know, there are a lot of reasons for faking in front of the camera. Or in front of the public, for that matter. I think honesty has been abused over time and space,” she added.

Cracks developed in Kajol and Johar's friendship over the last few years. The final nail in the coffin was last year when his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil clashed with Kajol's husband Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay during Diwali.

Devgn shared an audio recording of self-proclaimed film critic Kamal Rashid Khan a.k.a. KRK on Twitter where he said that Johar allegedly paid him Rs25 lakh to badmouth Shivaay. Kajol, too, shared the same recording by captioning it, “Shocked”. Her one-word tweet meant she believed the contents of the audio clip, thus falling completely out of favour with Johar.

In his book The Unsuitable Boy, Johar has revealed how this single Tweet from Kajol brought an end to a close, long-standing friendship.
