Suparna Thombare

Since his debut in 2011, Arijit Singh has become the voice of love, romance, and broken hearts across the country. From ghazals to intensely dramatic love ballads, the singer has managed to deliver songs that evoke every emotion of love. On his 30th birthday, we pick the best of the 3 time Filmfare award winning singer's memorable songs from each year of his career.

2011
Phir Mohobbat - Murder 2

This was the song that started it all. Arijit Singh made his debut with this passionate romantic ballad in the Emraan Hashmi-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer. The song would mark him out as a rare talent.

2012
Raabta - Agent Vinod

While cinephiles were blown by the beautiful picturisation of the whole song in one take, it is Arijit's melodious voice that carries the song's underlying romance through all the action onscreen.

Phir Le Aya Dil - Barfi!

Jagjit Singh. Pankaj Udhas. Arijit Singh. This beautifully romantic ghazal in Barfi!(2012) was the hallmark of a magical album. Arijit added a touch of wistfulness that made this nostalgic melody a favourite for broken hearted lovers forever.

2013
Tum Hi Ho - Aashiqui 2

The romance, passion, obsessiveness of Aashiqui 2 needed a singer with the ability to convey that very emotion. The song won Arijit his first Filmfare Award for Best Singer (2012), alongwith 10 nominations at different awards.

Kabira - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

There is something about heartbreak and Arijit that makes them a natural match. This lovely, melancholic track from Ayan Mukherji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani raised the bar of the film to another level.

2014
Khul Kabhi Toh - Haider

The seriousness of Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider was reflected in its music, with one exception. This wonderfully intense ballad by Arijit had the lightness of Kashmir's snow, proving that the singer is just as good at positive emotions.

Jiya - Gunday

In a film that was as commercial as it was over the top, Arijit's rendition of this romantic track featuring Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra stands out for the unique bassy quality of his voice.

2015
Judaai - Badlapur

In Sriram Raghvan's dark revenge drama, Badlapur, the singer delivered a moving ode to lost love. Interestingly, the song borrows from 'chadariya jhini re jhini' a song written by the saint Kabir,

Agar Tum Saath Ho - Tamasha

Imtiaz Ali's intense melodrama. Ranbir Kapoor playing a heartbroken, confused poet. No wonder, Arijit was a natural addition to this song which speaks to the innermost fears of a lonely heart. Also, Alka Yagnik is divine.

2016
Channa Mereya - Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Ranbir Kapoor and Arijit have a fated connection with heartbroken characters. Though he won the Filmfare for Best Singer for the title track of 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', this soulful composition is proof that no one speaks of the pain of love like Arijit.

Nashe Si Chadh Gayi - Befikre

Before you go accusing the singer of being too depressive, listen to this quality number. 'Nashe Si Chadh Gayi' is the perfect antidote to a dull day, with Arijit's voice matching the antics of Ranveer Singh on screen.

2017
Roke Na Tuke Naina - Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Simple, effective, yet so brilliant! This composition by Amaal Malik has Arijit deliver the perfect ode to the irresistible nature of love. His natural voice adds something immeasurable to Malik's high quality composition.

Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga - Half Girlfriend

In his latest film, Mohit Suri has turned again to Arijit to speak about the nature of unspoken love. For a singer who only made his debut in 2011, Arijit has managed to touch a chord with millions of his fans through the perfect delivery of the rainbow of emotions around the feeling of love.
