Playback singer Kailash Kher has hit out at the organisers of the upcoming Canadian singer Justin Bieber's concert for getting actress Sonakshi Sinha to sing at the upcoming event in Mumbai on 10 May. Kher believes getting an actor to sing on such a stage is not a good sign and sends a wrong message internationally.
“I read somewhere that a Canadian singer Justin Bieber is coming to India, and actress Sonakshi will perform at the gig. The news was cute, but quite a lie. It doesn't send a good message internationally," Kher told IANS news agency.
Sinha is no stranger to singing as she has crooned a single 'Ishqaholic' and a track from her film Akira (2016). Sinha had also sung the Boss (2013) track 'Har Kisi Ko Nahin Milta' at the Coldplay concert in November last year.
More than the actress, Kher has hit out at the event managers and promoters who deem it fit to get an actor to sing at such events.
“Whenever any singer from the West comes to India, we get an actor on board to match their level. We don't get a singer for another singer, but an actor... Event managers and producers of entertainment industry are so scared,” added Kher.
Kher lamented how professional singers weren't given their due at such events, with promoters, event managers roping in popular actors.
“Live performances are thought to be more valuable around the world not actors, but not in India. Indians are very emotional and that is why sometimes they miss out logic while watching a live gig. The organisers don't consider crowd's sensibilities (while deciding on the acts in a live gig, and only go for a popular face. Often actors just come and say 'It is nice to be here," said the Padma Shri (Indian civilian award) recipient.
Sinha has been struggling on her career front with her latest release, Noor, tanking at the box office. Sinha hasn't had a hit since the Akshay Kumar-starrer Holiday (2014).
