Kalpana Chawla biopic, Sahir Ludhianvi film, Pink director’s next: Which one will Priyanka Chopra pick?

Priyanka Chopra has been away from Hindi films for more than a year. Her last film back home was Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, which released last year. The actress has made it big in the international arena through the TV series, Quantico. She will also be seen making her Hollywood debut with Baywatch later this year.

There are speculations about her next Hindi film. Recent news reports indicate that Chopra will play the late Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla in a biopic. Few reports have also confirmed the same although there hasn’t been any official announcement by the actress or the makers.

The film will be directed by first-timer Priya Mishra, who has been working on the film for seven years. Speaking to a daily, she said, “I was last heading a TV channel creatively and post 2011, quit to pursue filmmaking. This is one of the two scripts that I have written.”

The film is said to be mounted on an international scale and a new production company, Getway, is likely to produce the biopic.

Chawla was the first female Indian astronaut to go into space. She passed away along with six of her colleagues in February 2003 during her second space expedition when her space shuttle exploded. She had spent 31 days, 14 hours and 54 minutes in space.

There is also buzz that Chopra will be paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan in a film on lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi’s romance with author and novelist, Amrita Pritam. The film is titled Gustakhiyan and it will be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. There hasn’t been any confirmation on the same though.

Gustakhiyan has been in the news for a long time now. Earlier, stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Irrfan Khan and Fawad Khan were speculated to play the role of Ludhianvi.

Lastly, Chopra is also said to be doing a film with Aniruddha Roy Choudhury, who rose to fame last year with Pink. Pink also won the National Award recently for being the Best Film on Other Social Issues.

The film is said to be a female-centric thriller based on real events and Chopra is expected to produce it. If it happens, it will be her first Hindi film as a producer. The project is expected to roll out this year and release early next year. But there hasn’t been any official announcement on this too.

During her recent return to India after six months, Chopra did say that she would be signing new projects. We can wait and watch to see if and when Chopra officially signs any of these three films.
