Today Akshay Kumar fans woke up to find that 2.0, his sci-fi film with superstar Rajinikanth, has been postponed to 25 January next year. 2.0 was earlier slated to release during Diwali this year.

The news came as a real surprise for Akshay and Rajinikanth fans who were looking for a Diwali treat. Shortly after the announcement, the hashtag 'We Want Padman This Diwali' started trending on Twitter.

Directed by R Balki, Padman is co-produced by Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna. Fans and various fan clubs of Kumar flooded Twitter with their We Want Padman This Diwali hashtags.  Some even tagged Khanna in their requests.

Here are a few requests

This user posted a video of Kumar feeding bananas to monkeys during the shoot of Padman in Mumbai.

Padman is said to be based on a true story. Buzz has it that the film is based on the real-life story of social entrepreneur, Arunachalam Muruganantham, who found a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village.

Apart from Akshay, the film stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. The cast is currently filming for the same.

Given how Kumar is known to wind up his shoots in good time, one wonders whether the actor will oblige his fans. Entertainment news website Bollywood Hungama.com had earlier reported that Padman would release during the Republic Day week in 2018. However, with 2.0 being shifted to that date, it is unlikely that Padman will release on the same day. For the record, the release date of Padman has not yet been announced.
