Fans of Superstar Rajinikanth will have to wait until next year to watch his eagerly awaited 2.0.
The producers of the film, Lyca, have announced that the film's release is being pushed to January 2018.
Raju Mahalingam of Lyca tweeted, "Our most ambitious project, Shankar's 2.0, shifts to 25 Jan 2018. It moves from earlier Diwali release to achieve world class standards in VFX."
Shankar's film, which features Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson in the lead, also features Akshay Kumar in a prominent role. The film boasts of having the best team of technicians on board and also includes AR Rahman for music, Anthony for editing and Nirav Shah for cinematography.
The postponing of the film seems to be a business move intended to avoid the clash with Aamir Khan-starrer, Secret Superstar, and Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again, which are due for theatrical release during Diwali, 18 October.
Golmaal Again not backing out of Diwali clash with 2.0 and Secret Superstar
The producers of the Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer had initially scheduled the film to release on 18 October 2017. The 2.0 team recently announced the completion of the shooting for the film. They had also suggested that only post production and CG work needed to be completed.
With a budget of Rs350 crore, the sequel to Shankar's blockbuster Endhiran is one of the costliest Indian films ever.
