Samantha Ruth Prabhu, one of the top heroines in the Tamil and Telugu film industries, seems to have discovered a love for martial arts. The actress has begun learning Silambam, the South Indian sport of fighting with a staff.

Samantha is known to be fond of her workout sessions at the gymnasium and she often challenges herself to push her limits. So, her love for a new challenge is not surprising.

The actress, who recently got engaged to Naga Chaitanya, posted a video of her practising Silambam on Thursday.

Because I like a challenge 😊 #newhobby #silambam . Can't wait to get better at this . #love #takeupsomethingnew

However, the actress is not learning the ancient martial art from Tamil Nadu for any film. Currently shooting for Sukumar's untitled project alongside Ram Charan, she is also expected to start shooting alongside Tamil actor Vijay for his next film, Vijay61.

Samantha is not the only actress who is learning Silambam. Several other actresses before her have taken a liking to the sport. In fact, Dhansikaa, who played Rajinikanth's daughter in his last film Kabali (2016), is an expert in the art of Chedi Kutchi Silambam. She is known to carry two small sticks with her in her car for self-defence.

Samantha is also set to play a journalist in the biopic of actress Savitri, titled Nadigayar Thilagam in Tamil and Mahanati in Telugu. Keerthy Suresh is expected to essay the role of the legendary actress in the film.
