Meri Pyaari Bindu song: 'Ye Jawaani Teri' has Ayushmann, Parineeti rock and roll to retro beats

Kausar Munir’s trendy lyrics, Sachin-Jigar's rollicking music, Nakash Aziz and Jonita Gandhi’s joyful singing make this Meri Pyaari Bindu track a foot tapping number.

Music is what binds Abhimanyu Roy (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Bindu (Parineeti Chopra) in Meri Pyaari Bindu. The two have recorded their best memories through some classic songs, but the film also has its share of original music. Yash Raj Films unveiled the 'Ye Jawaani Teri' track from the film today. It can be best described as a classic rock and roll track.

Composed by the duo of Sachin-Jigar, 'Ye Jawani Teri' carries within it shades of RD Burman's 'Aaja Aaja' from Teesri Manzil (1966). It’s not just the rollicking dance moves of Khurrana and Chopra, but the style in which Jonita Gandhi and Nakash Aziz croon the line ‘Ye jawani teri jeene nahi deti’ is reminiscent of the iconic 'Oh Oh Aajaa aah aaja ah ah’ lines crooned by Asha Bhosle and the late Mohammad Rafi.

The song also reminds you partly of the Rock And Roll Soniye track from Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006). Similarly, Jonita Gandhi’s singing brings memories of Alisha Chinai from the song It's Rocking from Kya Love Story Hai (2007).

Given the theme of the film, it is natural for the song to trigger a sense of nostalgia, but it does have a soul and beat of its own. Kausar Munir’s lyrics are very trendy and catchy. The rocking music by Sachin-Jigar complement the lyrics perfectly. The lyrics and music have a rhythmic flow.

It is hard to find fault with the music or lyrics, but the track purely rides high on the retro and contemporary dances moves of Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra. While the Chopra is quite comfortable with dance, it’s hard to recollect whether Khurrana has ever danced with such gay abandon before. There is an infectious energy in their moves which will make you tap your feet as well.

Meri Pyaari Bindu is directed by Akshay Roy, and stars Khurrana and Chopra in the lead roles. The film is set to be released on 12 May.
