Hanuman Da Damdaar trailer: Salman Khan happy to play second fiddle to young Maruti

The moment Salman Khan came on board, all eyes and ears were glued to the upcoming animated flick Hanumaan Da Damdaar. The trailer has been released and director Ruchi Narain's flick promises to be an epic fable.

The legend of Lord Hanuman, especially his younger days, has been tweaked to suit the current sensibilities with creatives using modern lingo to make it more appealing to the target audience (children). This is a formula that we’ve seen a countless times before on television and Hanuman flicks.

Director Narain treads the familiar path, setting her film around Hanuman’s younger days, (Hanuman was named Maruti as a child). Maruti and Wingman are entrusted with the task of saving amrit (elixir of life).

One is likely see Khan, who has lent his voice to the adult Hanuman, come towards the latter half of the film wherein he will set Lanka on fire. Khan seems to be more than happy to play second fiddle to Maruti.

As seen in the trailer, Khan is likely to display his Dabangg swagger as a voiceover artiste. So, we get to hear him say his Wanted (2009) dialogue, “Ek baar joh maine commitment kardi toh...”

Khan will no doubt help get the necessary eyeballs for the film, but Hanuman Da Damdaar trailer hooks you for its content. There's a talking lizard, flying elephant, reporter parrot, whale and other creatures that add colour and humour to this epic fable.

Apart from Khan, the film boasts of popular names as voice actors. Lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar is the voice of Saint Valmiki, Raveena Tandon is the voice of Maruti’s mother, Chunky Pandey’s character is called a ‘nazuk guide’, while Vinay Pathak is the parroting reporter Popat Sharma who reports live. Makarand Deshpande plays the villain Vishrava, while Saurabh Shukla is heard speaking in the style of Veeru (Dharmendra) from Sholay. Kunal Khemu is the voice of Lord Indra.

“Jahan na pahunche Superman, wahan pahunche Hanuman,” Maruti says in his cute voice in the trailer.

Well, who needs Superman when there's Hanuman. Watch the entertaining and catchy trailer of Hanuman Da Damdaar. The film is set to be released on 19 May.
