Priyanka Chopra's standing overseas seems to be growing with each passing week. After becoming a regular feature on talk shows, and gaining a reputation for her talent, the actress has now been announced as a jury member of the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. The Quantico actress will be part of the jury judging films entering the Documentary and Student Visionary Competitions at the festival.
Founded by actor Robert De Niro and investors Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the Tribeca Film Festival has become one of the most prominent film events in the city of New York. The 2017 festival is scheduled to begin on 19 April and end on 30 April. The awards ceremony will be hosted by comedian and actor, Michael Rapaport on 27 April.
Chopra, for her part, joins a jury consisting of actress Olivia Thirlby, actor-director Ryan Eggold, actor Brendan Fraser, and Ileen Gallagher. The jury is one of nine teams judging for the 10 different competitive categories of the festival. This is certainly a proud moment for Chopra, who joins a list of who's who like Willem Dafoe, Zachary Quinto, Amy Berg and producer Alex Orlovsky on the list of Tribeca juries.
Founder Julia Rosenthal remarked at the diversity of the jury saying, "This year’s jury reflects the diverse artistry represented in our Festival programme, which has evolved over the past 15 years to showcase the breadth of storytelling across all mediums," before she added, "Selecting winners in each category is no easy task, and we look forward to the thoughtful perspective and spirited debate our jurors will bring to the job."
The other Indian representative at the film festival will be Amit Masurkar's Newton. The film, starring Rajkummar Yadav, is competing in the International Narrative section of the competition.
Chopra is also awaiting the release of her own film, Baywatch, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron on 10 May. For now though, it looks like she has some judging to do.
