He had you rolling in the aisles with his fudged speech in 3 Idiots (2009). And he is back. Omi Vaidya, better known as Chatur Ramalingam from the Aamir Khan starrer, is set to return to Hindi cinema with Delhi Belly (2011) director Abhinay Deo’s next film Raita starring Irrfan Khan.

Apparently, Vaidya had returned to the United States and it required a great deal of persuasion by Deo to bring him back.

"For this particular character in Raita, I couldn't see anyone other than Omi essaying it," Deo told Mid-Day newspaper. "We went the extra mile to reach out to him and bring him back to Bollywood."

Raita is already on the floors, but Vaidya will join the rest of the cast later. "Omi  begins shooting in May," said Deo. The director calls Raita a 'Mumbai-centric quirky comedy'. "It falls in the same genre as Delhi Belly. The comedy is situational," he said.

After rising quickly to fame with 3 Idiots, Vaidya struggled in subsequent films like Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011) and Players (2012). The last major film he was seen in was Jodi Breakers (2012).

The actor is currently shooting for a satire on Indians in the US, for Netflix.
