The trailer of Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend gives an idea that the film is about a guy who loves a girl dearly but she only prefers being his 'half girlfriend', someone more than a friend, but less than a girlfriend.
During the trailer launch of the movie, Arjun Kapoor, who plays the protagonist Madhav Jha, revealed an incident that left him heartbroken years ago while answering a question about how he could relate to the character.
During his college days, he had fallen for a girl. He thought of taking his time before asking her out. “You feel this is not the right time to say (anything). We keep delaying it by a week and it keeps getting delayed. I thought I should take a couple of weeks more to know her. I felt she should be comfortable around me and then I will properly ask her out for a date. So there was a good build up, just like in Hindi films (sic).”
And just like in many Hindi films, there was a twist in the tale and a rude one at that. “I went wearing my best clothes. It was her birthday. I felt it was the best day. She entered in 48 frames per second. But along with her, a guy also entered, holding her hand.”
But, being an optimist, Arjun didn’t give up hope. “I told myself, she has brought her brother along,” he said leaving everyone in splits. “So, I was happy that her brother is also here. But she came and said, ‘He is my boyfriend. He just asked me out today.’ I thought, ‘If I had met her four hours ago, she would have been my girlfriend.’"
He continued, "After that incident, I genuinely couldn’t even talk to her. This is what happens when your relationship is incomplete. My friendship got over. Today she is married."
But Arjun did meet her some time back through a common friend. “She is doing very well. She is in England now,” he added.
