Akshay Kumar's Bharat Ke Veer app to help with donations for martyred soldiers

The National Award win has brought a wave of good fortune for actor Akshay Kumar. The actor has finally launched his app, Bharat Ke Veer, to help civilians from all over the country to donate money to the families of deceased soldiers. The actor had announced his intention to work on the app on Republic Day in January this year. 

The website, called bharatkeveer.gov.in, was launched at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occassion of CRPF Valour Day on Sunday. The website and the app were launched by home minister Rajnath Singh. The portal will allow users to donate up to Rs 15 lakh to martyred soldiers.

Speaking to a gathering of soldiers, Akshay said, "Today, I am here between you not as an actor, but as the son of an Army officer. Our jawans fight them with all their heart and do good work. We need the support of 1.25 billion people to do good work." 

Home minister Singh praised the actor's commitment to the cause, and said, "It would not be wrong if I call him 'Action Kumar'. He is a hero for so many, but for him, Army and CRPF jawans are the real heroes." 

Speaking to a daily, Hindustan Times, the actor said that the app and the website were developed within 3 months of conception.

On 26 January, the actor had posted a video requesting his fans to contribute more productively to the financial aid of soldiers and martyrs. In a video, he had suggested that he was planning to start a project by himself to help the cause. 

The actor has been an active contributor to the cause of armed forces. He had recently donated Rs9 lakh to the families of the 12 CRPF personnel who were martyred at the Sukma Naxal attacks on 11 March.
