1. “Dhakkan khole ke!” - CS Dubey
The actor, known for his roles in Seema (1955), Teesri Kasam (1966) and Main Tulsi Tere Angan Ki (1978), got a career resurgence when the line was used in Zinda Dil (1975), starring Rishi Kapoor and Pran. Dubey started using the dialogue on the programme he hosted on the radio to inject humour into the show.
2. “Galti se mistake ho gaya.” - Viju Khote
The cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna (1994) had all its actors deliver memorable dialogues. One in particular was Viju Khote’s “Galti se mistake ho gaya”. As the hopeless henchman Robert of crook Teja (Paresh Rawal), Khote could never quite manage to follow directions, hence the above line.
3. “Mogambo khush hua!” - Amrish Puri
Mr. India (1987) gave Hindi movie fans an invisible superhero, a plucky journalist, several adorable children and one unhinged general Mogambo whose main objective was to capture India. Holed out in his underground lair, Mogambo (remarkably portrayed by Amrish Puri) loved to say “Mogambo khush hua” whenever things went right. According to him, it wasn't nearly enough.
4. “Prem naam hai mera... Prem Chopra!” - Prem Chopra
Legendary villain Prem Chopra’s one-liner from Bobby (1973) became so popular that Chopra named his memoirs after it. Chopra made an eventful guest appearance in Raj Kapoor’s film about young love, mouthing the dialogue, “Prem naam hai mera... Prem Chopra” to a teenage Dimple Kapadia. Nobody would ever forget who he was after that.
5. “Bad man!” - Gulshan Grover
Gulshan Grover’s official character name in Ram Lakhan (1989) was Kesariya Vilayati, but everyone remembers him by his unofficial name, Bad Man. Vilayati would often say “Bad man” throughout the film and after its success, the name stayed on permanently. Recently, Grover appeared in a comic web series titled, what else, Badman, where he plays a version of himself trying to relaunch his career as a hero.
6. “Mere Karan Arjun aayenge.” - Rakhee
This poignant dialogue from Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun (1995) has been turned on its head over the years. From clever memes to hilarious parody videos, the line has seen it all. At its forefront is yesteryear star Rakhee who played the long-suffering mother of Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) who kept repeating the words “Mere Karan Arjun aayenge” in hopes of seeing them again one day.
7. “Saara sheher mujhe LION ke naam se jaanta hai.” - Ajit
Subhash Ghai’s Kalicharan (1976) had Shatrughan Sinha and Ajit facing off against each other. As a villain, Ajit had notables lines from “Mona darling” in Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) to “Lilly, don’t be silly” in Zanjeer (1973). But the dialogue “Saara sheher mujhe LION ke naam se jaanta hai,” from Kalicharan (1976) where he reveals his nefarious alter ego, Lion, to the audience is truly one for the ages.
